–3 May 2007: 2nd private screening at the Recital Hall, CCNY; made possible by Professor Alison Deane. “Tocar y Luchar” Associate Producer Nestor Lopez brought the latest/best edition
–18 June 2007: 3rd private screeing at the Metropolitan Opera Guild; ES-NYC member Olivia Koppell made this possible through Laura Day of the Metropolitan Opera Guild. Immediately after the screening, Marni Nixon said: “Now that we’re inspired, what do we do next?”
That led to the very first meeting of ES-NYC; a group of inspired individuals who met at the Metropolitan Opera House Musicians’ Lounge
shortly after the screening that day. Among the attendees besides Marni Nixon were: Jose Bergher, Larry Rawdon, Nardo Poy, Nina Stern, Teresa Cheung, Chet Schmitt, Dr. Lisa DeLorenzo, Marcus Rojas, Jaime Austria, Reinaldo Moya, and Samuel Marchan [the last 2 are graduates of EL SISTEMA.] Olivia Koppell was there in spirit.
–26 June 2007: 4th private screening for the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra; made possible by Olivia Koppell through ABT Music Coordinator and Conductor David LaMarche.
–13 September 2007: Jacqui Danilow got a meeting with Theodore Wiprud, Director of Education, New York Philharmonic; this led to a scheduled meeting with the Department of Youth and Community Development, Out of School Time Program on 17 December 2007.
-12 October 2007: ES-NYC meeting with New York City Department of Education (NYC-DOE) administrators Sharon Dunn and Barbara Murray; made possible by ES-NYC member Olivia Koppell through her brother, Oliver Koppell, NYC Councilmember representing Riverdale who got Chancellor Joel Klein to watch the 23-minute DVD.
NYC-DOE administrators Dunn and Murray were invited to the November 7th 2007 forum and symposium in Boston through
Larry Rawdon’s conduitry. Invitation turned down. So…
–7 November 2007:ES-NYC member Larry Rawdon attended the New England Conservatory and its Center for Music-in-Education forum and public symposium: “The Venezuelan Music Education Miracle: What is it? What can we learn?”
-13 November 2007: ES-NYC meeting with 2 of the top FESNOJIV officers, Valdemar Rodriguez and Eduardo Mendez; made possible by Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu through the intercession of Alondra De la Parra [founder and music director ot the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas.]
–24 April 2008: ES-NYC member Ms. Olivia Koppell got a screening/presentation done in the
RED ROOM at New York City Hall for some members of the NYC Council.
Education Committee Chair Councilmember Robert Jackson attended and said that a pilot-program implementation must “move forward.”
Also, the NYC Council will issue a Proclamation honoring Maestro José Antonio Abreu, founder of EL SISTEMA.
